I studied abroad at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia. Brisbane is a smaller city which made it relatively easy to get used to. That was nice considering home was halfway across the globe.
To Do:
Spend a weekend at the beach, Sunshine Coast or Gold Coast, which are both easy bus/train rides away from central Brisbane
Spend a day at the Streets Beach, a man-made beach in Southbank
Shop through the Queen Street Mall
Visit Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, where you can hold koalas and feed kangaroos
Plan a wine tour through the Tamborine Mountains
Take a tour of the XXXX Brewery
Hitch a ride up Mt. Coot-tha for a beautiful panoramic view of the city
Take a ride on the Wheel of Brisbane
See a movie (or 5) at Southbank Cinemas
Visit the reefs at Heron Island and North Stradbroke Island
Cycle around the city using City Cycle (pro tip: if you return the bike within less than 2 hours, it’s free)
Get tickets to a Brisbane Lions AFL game (Australian Football)
Do the Story Bridge Adventure Climb
